Flea Prevention and Control

Fleas may lead to annoyance and potential health threats for pets. If you have a dog, cat, ferret, mouse or rat, fleas can infest them, causing severe itching, irritation and allergies. Fleas on animals can bite humans too.

Take our veterinarian's help to keep these blood-sucking parasites away from your pet and house. Seek flea prevention treatment if fleas have attached themselves to your pet. Contact us to eliminate and control fleas or begin a preventive pet treatment.

Heartworm Prevention

Transmitted by mosquitoes, a worm parasite, Dirofilaria immitis, causes heartworm infection. This organism carries the heartworm larvae from an infected animal host to a new animal host. Gradually growing into adult worms, the presence of heartworms can stress the heart, lungs or blood vessels of your dog or cat. Depending on the number of heartworms present, the signs and severity of infection may vary.

If you have pet dogs, the heartworm infection risk is high. Look for symptoms such as coughing, fatigue, weight loss, difficulty in breathing and swollen abdomen. Your dog may also suffer from a life-threatening complication known as “caval syndrome.” Heartworm problems require quick surgical intervention by a veterinarian.

Your cats may not be completely immune to heartworms. They may suffer from heartworm-associated respiratory diseases and have subtle asthma or allergic bronchitis symptoms. Look for signs such as respiratory distress, coughing, vomiting, weight loss or appetite loss.

Heartworm infection treatment is costlier than prevention—and it can lead to the death of your dog. There is no approved treatment for cats, but a few cats spontaneously get cured of the infection, and others perish.

Don’t stress.

It is easy to keep your pets safe with preventive care. We'll administer monthly heartworm preventives. Most of these medications also protect your dog or cat against other parasites, such as hookworms, roundworms, whipworms, ear mites, ticks and fleas. Our veterinarian can recommend the right regimen of pet prevention.

Tick Prevention

Whether your pet loves to spend a lot of time outdoors or indoors; it is essential to seek tick prevention for them. These parasites can cause severe diseases in pets, such as Rocky Mountain spotted fever, Lyme disease, babesiosis, tick paralysis and ehrlichiosis. Get in touch with us if your pet begins coughing or experiences joint pain, breathing issues, weakness, fever, appetite loss, weight loss or low energy.

We can keep ticks off your pet by keeping them on a tick preventive. Our veterinarians only use safe and effective preventives for controlling ticks and diseases. Get your best friend protected today!

If you find a tick on your pet, don't panic even if they are not on a preventive. Some preventives eliminate ticks after infesting your pet. Ticks may hide under your pet’s fur, so we recommend physically examining your pet from time to time as an extra measure of protection. Feel free to ask us any questions you might have.
